Kingston Building was awarded the contract for the BMW Car showroom under a GMP contract for the Kloster Motor Group of Newcastle. The site required demolition of structure and removal of fuel storage tanks. Site remediation and asbestos removal was undertaken by Kingston Building for a third of the anticipated costs. The building consisted of portal frame structure, with precast panels and cladded studwork. The architectural features are highlighted by the full facade glass shop front, metallic composite cladding to the streetscape with a high level of internal fit out in keeping with the BMW/Mini product.

From start to finish throughout the project Kingston looked for energy efficiency and environmental sustainable opportunities. At excavation it was discovered that fuels had leached into the soil. On site re-meditation was the chosen option thereby eliminating landfill. Also previous buildings and footings contained asbestos so the masonry was crushed on site and reused as fill. Kingston was also excavating a basement on another site and so the BMW site provided a further opportunity to reduce the volume of excavated material that would have gone to landfill. In total over 5000 tonnes of fill diverted from landfill.

The project was finished to a high level with environmental and energy efficient initiatives both in the design and construction phases.
