Kingston Building was awarded the Cessnock High School project under a Design and Construct contract. The project was executed in two stages, strategically planned to minimise disruption within the live school environment and to manage risks associated with working on an active campus.
The first stage focused on the demolition of an existing Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA) and student hub. This made way for the construction of a brand-new Student Hub that included facilities such as a staff study and bulk storage area.
In the second stage, Kingston Building constructed a new COLA, designed to extend seamlessly from the existing roofline. Covered walkways were also installed, offering weather protection for students and staff as they navigate between different areas of the school.
Key Project Features
- Demolition: Removal of existing structures to facilitate new construction.
- Civil and Earthworks: Ground preparations for the foundation and infrastructure.
- Piling: Installation of piles to support the new structures.
- Structural Steel and Roofing: Construction of the framework and installation of durable roofing.
- Rainwater Disposal: Implementation of efficient drainage systems.
- Brick Cladding: High-quality brickwork to align with the school’s aesthetic.
- Aluminium Louvres and Windows: Energy-efficient and durable solutions for ventilation and lighting.
- Internal Linings: Wall and ceiling finishes to meet modern educational facility standards.
The successful delivery of the Cessnock High School project demonstrates Kingston Building’s expertise in managing complex construction works within operational school environments, ensuring both safety and minimal disruption to school operations.
