Kingston Building was awarded the design and construct contract for the CIQ Fitout Newcastle Airport Pty Ltd. The NAPL CIQ Fitout involved pre-construction planning to ensure that the airport day to day functioning was not affected by construction work. Deliveries had to be managed to avoid flight arrivals and comply with strict security requirements mandatory for any domestic airport.

Much of the work was completed at night while the airport was closed to the public where access to secure zones was required under the supervision of Security Guards. Cabling from the new comms room passed through the ceiling space of the existing departures lounge and areas with existing retail outlets. Construction personnel were required to have Aviation Security Identity Cards and NAPL Induction completed.

Hoardings were erected made of smooth laminate capable of advertising displays. Works were completed to comply with both Border Securities and NAPL requirements where coordination between stakeholders had to be accommodated.

In particular the Joinery package was most important to meet both parties’ requirements meaning multiple hold point and shop drawing approvals.
