The Oak Tree Retirement Village Broadmeadow project is a flagship building in the vertical retirement living sphere in NSW.

It involved the development of 29 senior living residences over 4-storeys, and is designed to provide attractive, independent living while addressing the challenges of diminishing physical health, cost certainty for fixed incomes, and maintaining strong social and community relationships for residents.

Kingston Building undertook a full Development Management role in the process of creating the retirement village. The management process included:

• Facilitating the purchase of the property, which consisted of 4 individual housing lots held in one line by a developer for whom Kingston undertakes other projects;
• Completing Concept and Detailed Designs;
• Demolishing 4 individual houses on 4 separate titled lots;
• Consolidating 4 Residential Lots into 1 Lot on which the development could be built;
• Securing Authority Approvals to allow the development to proceed; and
• Constructing the 4-storey apartment building.

As part of this development, Kingston partnered with Oak Tree Group in the design and delivery of their vision for this vertical retirement village, which included:

• 29 retirement living units comprising of a mixture of 1,2- & 3-bedroom units.
• A rooftop communal living space complete with BBQ, kitchen and landscaped pergola area with expansive views over the nearby Broadmeadow Racecourse.
• A Commercial Communal Centre on the ground floor which includes a library, meeting area, lounge area and kitchen facilities as well as the Property Managers office.
• Secure ground floor car parking complete with car wash bay, bin store and workshop.
• Centralised plant.
• Lift access to all levels.
• Streetscape works.

At completion the Oak Tree Group Retirement Village, Jesmond was a success, and all parties involved were pleased with the final outcome.

Working with the Kingston team was a positive and collaborative experience. The project encountered many global and local challenges which were managed in both a professional and transparent manner.
