The Corpus Christi Project was a 12-week program focused on a major internal fi t out of the hall and music room (built in 1952), enhancing both functionality and aesthetics.
Key work included structural remediation of the hall’s brickwork, with the installation of brick ties for improved integrity. Non-compliant glazing was replaced, and timber window frames were either repaired or replaced. Internally, a storeroom was demolished, and the bathroom upgraded for accessibility. Non-compliant stairs were replaced with Blackbutt hardwood and stainless steel handrails.
Hall upgrades featured new pinboards, automated blinds, improved lighting, Supawood acoustic panelling, and a new sound and lighting system. Architectural
improvements included a new sun hood, fire stairs, painting, and floor sanding. Kingston installed over 250 brick ties and a concrete moisture barrier. Additional upgrades included custom joinery, new flooring, and enhancements to the music room with acoustic and audiovisual improvements.
Externally, the project included levelling and repairing subfloor piers, installing mechanical ventilation fans with sensor switches, and adding ventilation grills and lintels. Non-compliant stairs were replaced with compliant steel stairs, and structural remediation involved installing 1,500 Heli Ties and repairing steel fixings and brickwork. Additional upgrades included new eaves, fascia, guttering, wall cladding, roof sheeting, a new entry ramp with handrail, upgraded windows and doors, and a 15-metre sun hood for shade and protection.
The project was completed within a live school environment, requiring careful planning to minimize disruptions. Kingston managed both internal and external works, with scaffolding designed for safe access to remediate windows and brickwork.
Challenges included extensive brick tie remediation, replacing non-compliant glazing, and managing asbestos during demolition, all requiring strict safety protocols. A key innovation was the use of Supawood cladding throughout the hall, chosen for its acoustic properties, durability, and modern aesthetic, enhancing both functionality and visual appeal.
