Kingston Building partnered with ALDI to deliver a new retail store at North Rothbury, NSW, supporting the continued growth of one of the Hunter Region’s fastest developing communities.
Located adjacent to an active retail precinct, the project required careful planning and coordination to manage ongoing public access, surrounding businesses, and construction activities throughout the build. Delivered within a tight 35-week programme, the project demanded precise sequencing and close collaboration with ALDI’s fit-out contractors to ensure all construction and commissioning milestones were achieved.
The scope of works included site clearing and bulk earthworks, installation of a 167,000-litre underground on-site detention (OSD) tank and stormwater infrastructure, construction of 3,600m² of concrete slabs, and a 3,100m² asphalt car park providing 106 vehicle spaces. The building comprises precast concrete wall panels, a structural steel frame, and a complete internal fit-out incorporating mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fire, and security services, together with commercial refrigeration systems, an elevated loading dock, and a waste compactor.
As one of the first stores constructed to ALDI’s latest design standards, the project required close attention to new construction methodologies, materials, and detailing. The site’s proximity to existing retail businesses also required comprehensive traffic and pedestrian management to maintain safe access for customers, staff, and the public throughout construction.
Sustainability was a key consideration throughout the project, with the installation of a bio-retention stormwater treatment system designed to filter surface water prior to discharge into the underground OSD system. External civil works were prioritised early in the programme to minimise wet-weather impacts and maintain construction momentum.
The completed development provides ALDI with a modern, efficient, and sustainable retail facility that supports the growing North Rothbury community. Delivered on programme and to a high standard, the project demonstrates Kingston Building’s capability to successfully deliver complex retail developments through effective planning, stakeholder coordination, and quality construction.
