The Con Gounis Grandstand project was awarded as a Design & Construct contract, consisting of two key components: the refurbishment of the existing amenities block and the construction of a new grandstand.
Completed in February 2024, the grandstand boasts 252 seats, home and away, women friendly, changerooms with full amenities, a first aid room, referee and media room, and canteen, catering to the needs of the players and spectators alike.
In addition to the grandstand, the project scope includes comprehensive landscaping, concrete footpaths, fencing, a 51-space asphalt carpark, and OSD Tank. This project is particularly noteworthy as it serves Newcastle Olympic FC, a powerhouse in football’s Northern NSW National Premier League.
The new grandstand, replaced the iconic Mat Austin stand, named after the club’s revered captain from the 1990s. This project is a testament to the collaboration between the City of Newcastle, Newcastle Olympic FC and Kingston Building project team.
