Continuing our longstanding partnership with the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, Kingston Building successfully delivered a comprehensive refurbishment and upgrade of the Science Laboratories and Senior Study areas at San Clemente Catholic College, Mayfield.
The project included the refurbishment of Block A to create a modern and collaborative student breakout and senior study space, together with a complete upgrade of the Block B Science Laboratories, incorporating new accessible workstations designed to improve functionality and inclusivity for all students.
In addition to the internal refurbishment, Kingston installed a new twin booster fire hydrant system within the outdoor common area to ensure compliance with the project documentation and current educational facility standards. Further works included the replacement of outdated laboratory workstations, installation of a new fume cupboard within the science preparation room, and upgrades to internal finishes including new vinyl flooring, wall linings, decorative pinboards, painting, window louvres and blinds, together with improvements to sanitary fixtures and fittings.
Delivering the project within a live school environment presented a key challenge, requiring all works to be carefully coordinated around daily school operations while maintaining the safety of students, staff, and visitors. Through close collaboration with the College Principal and school representatives, classes were temporarily relocated where required, allowing construction to progress safely and efficiently. Hoarding, secure barrier systems, and carefully managed work zones were implemented throughout the project to minimise disruption and maintain a safe learning environment.
The completed refurbishment has transformed the teaching and learning spaces into contemporary, functional environments that better support science education and collaborative learning. Delivered safely within an operational school, the project demonstrates Kingston Building’s capability to successfully deliver complex education projects while maintaining uninterrupted school operations and achieving high-quality outcomes.
