This project, delivered for the NSW Department of Education, involves the restoration of the Cessnock High School Hall facilities to full and safe operation following significant damage caused by a major storm event in January. During the storm, uplift occurred to the roof of Block H, resulting in substantial water ingress and consequential damage to the internal building fabric, finishes, and adjoining structures.

The scope of works centres on the full remediation and reinstatement of Block H, the school’s Multi-Purpose Centre, with the objective of returning the facility to a safe, compliant and fully operational state. Internal works include the replacement of damaged timber ceiling systems, reinstatement of the sprung sports flooring system, and the renewal of timber finishes to the stage area to restore both functionality and presentation.

Additional internal and adjacent works comprise the reconstruction of the soffit to the canteen apron, along with the replacement of covered walkways that were significantly impacted during the storm event and subsequently removed as part of initial make-safe measures. Externally, the project includes the reconstruction of the main entrance canopy and replacement of the eastern entry awning, incorporating new covered walkways to ensure safe and weather-protected access between key areas of the school. These works are being under-taken with careful consideration of the existing structures and the operational requirements of a live school environment, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing school activities.

The final stages of the project involve comprehensive cleaning of all affected surfaces, completion of electrical reinstatement works, and the reinstallation of sports equipment and fittings. Upon completion, the facility will be fully restored to a high standard, providing a safe, functional and resilient environment for staff and students, and ensuring the long-term usability of this important school asset.
