Kingston’s Building Services division transformed the existing Multifaith Room at Maitland Hospital to create a new patient Transit Lounge, providing a functional and welcoming space to support patient movement through the hospital.

The project required extensive multi-trade coordination and careful planning within an operational hospital environment. Strict adherence to hospital guidelines, procedures and safety requirements was critical to delivering the project on time while minimising disruption to hospital operations.

Works included demolition of existing walls and flooring, window modifications, internal wall alterations, electrical and plumbing services, mechanical services, wall and ceiling linings, joinery, new vinyl flooring, painting and installation of a new ceiling grid system. Associated fire services were also modified to suit the new layout and integrate with the existing hospital systems.

The project also included the demolition of an existing ablution room to create a new Dirty Utility space. This involved waterproofing, new wall linings and associated finishes to provide a compliant and functional clinical environment.

Kingston Building successfully coordinated the various trades and works packages to deliver a high-quality refurbishment while maintaining a safe and controlled work environment within the live hospital setting.
