Kingston Building was awarded the design and construct contract for the tunnel composting facility for Remondis in conjunction with LMCC. The development is capable of processing 44,000 tonnes of material per annum.

The contract works, totalling $10m, covered a site area of approximately 50,000m². The project included significant civil and building works incorporating the following key components:

• Bulk earthworks and associated drainage works
• 1500m² Receival Hall and Tunnel Hallway structures
• 5 x 170m² Composting Tunnels
• Biofilter, Humidifier and Process Water Tank
• Administration and Education Centre Building
• Weighbridge
• Associated services and stormwater storage tanks
• Leachate and sanitary sewer collection/ disposal systems
• Paved and unpaved roadways.

The project was staged to allow early occupancy of the Curing and Maturation areas ensuring the Client could relocate from their old facility and commence operations ahead of schedule. The remaining building works, including the Composting Tunnels and Receival Hall, were constructed whilst facilitating Remondis’s requirements of operating out of the site.

The site was unique due to the strict ecological & indigenous heritage constraints. Kingston Building effectively planned & managed all works giving consideration to these site specific sensitivities.
